About
Janice obtained her Master of Science degree in Occupational Therapy from the University of Toronto. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology and Social Anthropology from Dalhousie University. She also holds a certificate in Disability Management from Dalhousie University, and a certificate in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy from Wilfred Laurier University.
Janice practices as both an occupational therapist and a psychotherapist.
As an occupational therapist, she has extensive experience working with clients with chronic mental health concerns, psychological trauma, chronic pain, neurological injuries, and physical health concerns. She also has experience working with cognitive injuries, burns, and physical polytrauma. She collaborates with clients to help with activity scheduling, behavioural activation, community re-integration, energy conservation strategies, sleep hygiene, stages of mental health and cognitive recovery, distress tolerance, and mindfulness. She holds training in Progressive Goal Attainment Program (PGAP), Sensory Enhanced Yoga for Self-regulation and Trauma, neurobiology of trauma, concussion management, chronic pain management, crisis intervention, exposure therapy and relaxation skills training. She is passionate about providing treatment that is client-centered and practicing trauma-informed care. Janice believes educating her clients on the underlying neurobiology and physiology behind their conditions and occupational therapy treatment. She enjoys working together with clients in a collaborative process to create individualized strategies that support them in achieving goals that are meaningful to the person.
Janice also provides counselling and psychotherapy services. She has training in a number of psychotherapy modalities and protocols including cognitive behavioural therapy for trauma (CBT-T), Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), unified protocol for transdiagnostic treatment of emotional disorders (UP), and motivational interviewing. She regularly participates in courses, workshops, and seminars to further her knowledge and skill, integrating a variety of methods into her practice to tailor treatment to her clients’ unique needs and goals.
In her free time, Janice enjoys backcountry hiking with loved ones and her puppy, Sage. She also likes running, cycling, and exploring the Ottawa Valley on weekends.
